Turkey Chaser Preview

Christmas is coming and 5 days later we have the ever popular Birr & District Motor Club’s Turkey Chaser Autotest on Sunday 30th December in the wonderful surroundings of Garahys Truck Garage Birr. 3 Test sites will be used on Concrete & Loose Surfaces suitable for MVAT, Road & Endurance Cars. Tests will be straight forward and not to taxing on the brain. One Event licences will also be available.

As quoted by Brian Duggan of rally.ie fame everybody who does this autotest will leave Garahys will a larger waist line due to the excellent food & the legendary Stew provided by the Eithne Garahy. Brian maintains that in order to be competitive, one must complete all tests before lunch in order to avoid the afternoon slump/sleep after the lunch of delicious Stew & Chocolate Cake.

Some interesting Entries include the Garahy Family Kieran the Dad, Dearbhaile, Ciaran, Jane, Hanna & Stephen along with Kevin Dempsey. Other entrants include MX5 Supremo Piers MacFheorais, Declan Burke in the VW Beetle, Mick Boland, Keith Shaw, Robert Lewis, Eoin Longworth, Patrick O’Leary, Whitby Moynan, Zara Moynan, John Nolan, Aoife Ryan, Paddy Fay, James Dwyer, Ryan Shiel, Declan Donohoe, Colin Sheridan, Martin Nugent, Brian Duggan & Darren Delaney who will drive Toyota Starlets which is the most popular car for this event.

As per usual Garahys Garage will provide Breakdown Assistance, Starlet Parts & On Event Mechanics which include Ger Connolly, Oliver Stanley & Ian McLoughlin to assist those in need of refurbishment (Cars & Drivers Included).

Clerk of the Course is the legendary John Delaney who promises challenging but simple tests and above all a fun filled day of cheap motorsport.

The Birr Loose Surface Autocross will be held on Sunday 18th November 2018. The Venue will be Gravel Park near Moneygall close to the M7 Junction 23.

• The Track is in Excellent Condition

Birr Endurance Trial Results - Sun 7th October 2018

The Birr Endurance Trial took place last Sunday and was a big success with lots of entries. Well done to the organisers and marshals for help making it a huge success, and a big thanks to all landowners for allowing us access to their property to enjoy ourselves.
A special thanks also to Garahys Truck Garage for providing a ideal venue for the HQ, and also for the gorgeous food and jelly & ice-cream provided while awaiting results.

The Birr & District Motor Club Endurance Trial is taking place on Sunday 7th October 2018.

H.Q for the Endurance Trial is Garahy's Garage, Fortal, Birr, Co Offaly. Scrutiny is from 7:45am with Start @10.00am and the first car finishes around 5:15pm.

10 Selectives repeated twice, usual favourites and a few new ones, the legendary Garahys Hospitality & Food, compact route, friendly organisers - Whats stopping you from travelling??? Get the word around.

As ever the Birr & District Motor Club's 50th Annual Tom O'Reilly Memorial Car Treasure Hunt was an outstanding success with a record entry of 105 Cars taking part. The Car Treasure Hunt is part of the Annual Birr Vintage Week & Arts Festival.

This years route started in Dooly's Hotel Birr and moved on through Rath, Gortnamuck, Derrinboy, Kinnitty, & finished near Killyon. Clues were varied and some were demanding and hard to find.

The Overall Winner was Sarah King from Riverstown on 770 Marks with runners up Pascal Horan from Killyon on 715 Marks. 3rd place went to Rath Resident Peter Darcy finishing on 710 Marks. Just outside the Top 3 was Cathal McIntyre from Lusmagh on 695 Points. The maximum score was 830 Marks.

The Birr & District Motor Club would like to thank all those who participated, The Residents along the route for there patience & understanding, Dooly's Hotel Birr for there excellent hospitality, Birr Vintage Week Committee along with the organisers Eoin Longworth, Una O'Brien, Patrick O'Leary, Mick Boland, Ger Brophy, Michael Parkinson, Eithne & Jane Garahy & John Shiel who all helped in making it a very enjoyable evenings fun.

The Birr Multi Venue Autotest will take place on the confirmed, changed date of 22th July 2018

The event will be based from Donaghmore Workhouse & Agricultural Museum, Donaghmore, Borris in Ossory, Co Laois, 4 Miles from Borris in Ossory - M7 Junction 21 on R435 Rathdowney Road.

Format:

• Sign On & Tests 1-9 (3 Tests done 3 Times) in Donaghmore Agricultural Museum. from 8.30am, Briefing 9.45am and Tests Start @10.00am.
• After Lunch Tests 10-21 (4 Tests done 3 Times) in Campion Concrete. 4 Miles from Donaghmore.
• Results, Prizegiving & Complimentary Dinner for all Drivers in Sheerans Bar, Coolrain.

Details:

• All drivers with cars who do not comply with the Road Traffic Act MUST TRAILER the Car between the 2 Test Venues and so no IRDS will be required for the event.
• Tests will be designed for Normal Production, Navigation Trial & Retro type Cars. 2WD Cars Only.
• Navigators are NOT required, but Passengers can be carried (Over 16 years) and don't need a competition licence (CPA €5 Extra or €3 if passenger is aged 16 or 17).
• The Donaghmore Museum Committee are providing us with Tea/Coffee & Snacks from 8.30am and also a Light Lunch for all Drivers. All monies will go towards the Donaghmore Museum.

The Great National Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh Tarmac Stages Rally will take place on the new date of Sunday 18th February 2018.
We are delighted to once again welcome the Great National Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh as the main event sponsors.

NATIONAL A NAVIGATOR LICENCES

IMPORTANT – all co-drivers in Stage Rallies MUST hold a minimum of National A Navigator licence.

MI Stage International, Stage National A and Stage National B Rally Drivers’ licences ARE VALID for co-drivers.

Because the MSA’s grading system is different to MI’s, MSA Stage International, Stage National A, Stage National B and Stage & Road Navigator ARE ALL VALID for co- drivers.

However, MI Road National B Driver licences, or National B Navigator licences are NOT VALID for Stage Rallies.
